Well, we have settled in nicely into our foster home. We love our pellets ... really, we love any food, but since both of us are a tad overweight, our foster mom has been making us forage for the grubs all over the apartment. It's hard work, but there is always a yummy treat at the end of it. While we prefer pellets, we will nibble on greens, such as carrot tops and lettuce, but aren't interested in vegetables yet. We also have learned to enjoy being misted from a spray bottle, which has improved our plumage significantly. As we have settled in, more battle scars from a former life have emerged. Aside from missing an eye, Sweetie has an overgrown beak that needs a trim every once in a while. The vet is trying to pinpoint the issue, but most likely it is due to the fatty seed diet she had been eating before coming to Mickaboo. Newton also has battle scars. He is missing flight feathers on his right wing, which are unlikely to grow back since even feather buds are missing. Reason for the injury is unknown, but might be due to a very botched wing trim. However, as long as left wing feathers are kept trimmed and Newton does not attempt to fly from anything too high, all is well. Please do not hold our little health issues against us, because all of it was inflicted upon us by humans and we are trying to get better. In terms of personality, Sweetie really lives up to her name - she is an incredibly good girl and will step up no matter what. She also permits her beak, head and back to be touched. Sweetie loves playing with jewelry and fingernails and is quiet, cozy and docile. Newton is more standoffish than Sweetie, mostly because he has a wife to protect. But when not burdened by matrimonial duties he is a curious and ditzy guy that likes to forage. Both of us are still learning that head scritches are good.... we probably didn't receive any for a while. In summary, life has not been kind to us, but we are easy to forgive and still think humans are pretty great. So come out and meet us! Print this page |
