UPDATE 10/12/03: Very sadly, Kai's cancer spread to other parts of his body and he had to be put to sleep. His new Mom says he was a wonderful bird. He will be sorely missed. UPDATE 9/10/03: "Kai had the first surgery on his wing for what they thought was a fatty tumor. After I got him as a foster bird, he had had the surgery and he was getting back to normal when the tumor came back. The doctors determined it was cancer, and he had to have more of his wing taken off. After the second surgery and bandage removal, Kai started picking at the wound because all the new feathers were coming in and driving him crazy. This meant he had to wear a collar for almost six weeks and was stuck in a tank. He saw the doctor last month and she was so happy to see his progress, no more collar and he is back in his cage. The only thing we have to worry about now is his weight because he is pretty scrawny. So my challenge is to get him to eat. But he is a lot of fun, extremely sassy and the ultimate "velcro bird"--wanting to be with me ALL the time. He loves to snuggle inside my shirt with his head poking out of my collar. His favorite game is who can be the loudest, which he plays with me, my husband and our other birds." There's a bird called a "secretary bird" but I am better--I'm a secretary AND a boss. My name is Kai and I'm a lovebird, so you know I expect to be in charge. We lovebirds think that being small is all the more reason to stay in control. But I also have secretarial skills. My current employee (or foster mom, as she likes to think of herself), says I am very good at shredding and trying to improve her computer keyboard. And I can do it all with one wing tied behind my back. Actually, I had to have part of one wing amputated because of a tumor, but I don't think of myself as disabled. And being an executive (or being sassy, as some call me) doesn't stop me from being a cuddler. I will gladly ride around on your shoulder as long as you'll let me. So I am now interviewing for an employee who will have great job security. I want someone to care for me for the rest of my life. Want the job? Print this page |
