UPDATE 7/3/2003: Here's the latest from Brenda's new Mom: "Brenda is settling in well and relates well to the whole family. She gets plenty of out time and I'm starting to give her new toys which she absolutely loves - I waited for a couple of weeks before I started changing things around in her cage. She whistles up a storm and is combining tunes to make up her own songs. She has been a fabulous addition to the family!" Some people say parrots are like little children. I'm an African Grey parrot myself, so I'm not an expert on human kids, but my current owner says you'll understand me better if you think of me as a precocious, sensitive 2-year-old little person. Actually, I am 12 and my name is Brenda. Iíve lived all of my life with a loving family who no longer has time for me. I am most used to women, but have no fear of men. Like most kids, I have fun watching family pets. I like to start the day with a whole walnut (crack it, please), and if you're late with it, I'll chew my nails and complain! I have a vocabulary of about 50 words, and know how to use it. I'm one of those toddlers who asks a lot of questions (about going outside or taking a shower, for example) and I expect intelligent answers. I can also whistle songs. (If you want to start one, I'll finish it). One of my favorites is "Tequila" because I love to yell "tequila" at the end. I play games, too, like peek-a-boo under the covers, or rolling a ball. Ask me for a kiss, and you'll get one. Ask me to sit on your shoulder, and I'll gladly perch there forever. Ask for permission to rub my neck, and you can do that until your fingers wear out. Don't I sound perfect? Where would the challenge be in having a perfect kid? I am a bit on the nervous side and have been known to pluck some of my feathers. I need a stimulating but nurturing environment with someone who has a lot of time to share. If you want to adopt a bird who will be a major parrot presence at the center of your life, come meet me!
