Update 02/12/2008: Hi again. I just wanted to let everyone know I am doing quite well after my surgery! I don't particularly like meds, but once we're done with the medications, my foster mom gives me a small treat and a head scritch, and all is forgiven. I am supposedly more partial to men, and was very bonded to my previous parent, but I kind of like the ladies now too! In fact I go easily to my foster mom and let her hold and pet me. I can't hold foods in my foot yet with this collar thing on, so my foster mom holds the food for me - what a pal! I am also learning to eat from my dish - my foster mom positions it just right for me. Even though I'm doing well I still need some time to finish my treatments and medications, so keep checking up on me!
I'd like to introduce myself - 'Jepetto' the Mollucan cockatoo. My owner said he got me as 'an egg'. He believes that I am a female & roughly 12 years old. Due to some family circumstances, and several moves, I have begun to pluck this past year. In fact I plucked so much that I went even a step further and began to self mutilate. I realize, NOW, that wasn't too bright of me because now I have a huge hole in my chest! It is very painful and it is pretty darn serious. In fact I'm scheduled for emergency surgery as I write this story. To be honest, I'm kind of nervous about it. I will be on an assortment of medications and pain killers afterwards per my avian vet. In addition to all that, she wants me to wear this collar around my neck so I can't reach my favorite plucking spot, my chest. Please send lots of good vibes my way - I'll need some help to get through this health crisis. The staff at my vet says I'm a pretty friendly gal, chatty and like to vocalize in the am and pm - you now the typical 'too contact call at dawn and dusk! People are pretty nice, in my opinion, and because my owner was a man I lean towards male companionship, but I like most everyone. I step up, on my own terms, and I'm used to being able to roam around the house. In addition I have a play stand I like to hang out on. Check back to see how I did through surgery, and after I'm all better maybe we can talk about me moving in? Talk to you soon!

Notice: Due to the notoriously difficult nature of cockatoos, Mickaboo prefers that cockatoos not be a households' first parrot. If you intend to house a cockatoo, please research the following websites:
