Hello. I'd like to introduce myself to the Mickaboo flock. I am Ms. Samantha - a senior gal of twenty years old. Though my name is Samantha, you can call me 'Sammie' or 'Sam' for short. I'm a twenty year old female citron cockatoo. I've been with the same family for pretty much most of my life - at least different members within the family. However, my primary 'person' is going to be away for quite a while so they thought it best if I find a new place to live and a new family I can spend good quality time with. Though I've not been in foster care for long at all, I am proving to be quite the friendly bird! I definitely don't like this 'isolation' thing that has to occur with new birds - but as long as my foster family keeps popping in to chat I can handle it for a bit longer. I was on primarily a parrot seed diet but am quickly converting to a more balanced diet which includes pellets, fruits and veggies. I'm quite the people bird. If I hear you in the other room I will call out to you. I, naturally, prefer it if you are in the same room with me. I like to hang off my cage trying to reach you, snuggle and even sit on the couch or bed with you and keep trying to burrow under my foster mom's arm and the blankets on the bed. At the moment I am a bit hormonal. 'Mom' discourages this and does her best to redirect me . I came in a round cage but am now in a more appropriate one with square corners. I feel safer that way. My picture does not show me at my best (I'm really quite beautiful) as I am in the process of molting and have many pin feathers- those darn itchy things) So, anyway, all this said and done I need to know if anyone out there would like to adopt me. I seem to have a preference for women at this point - but who knows - that may change if I meet the right guy. I'm a good bird and have many good years left to provide you with birdie friendship. Write to the cockatoo coordinator and she'll hook us up! Notice: Due to the notoriously difficult nature of cockatoos, Mickaboo prefers that cockatoos not be a households' first parrot.
