Hi There! My name is Lola and I am a beautiful 2 year Congo African Grey. I know I may look a bit "naked" as I am missing some of my feathers, but I am truly a beautiful bird both inside and out. My previous caregivers loved me very, very much, and they did a wonderful job in socializing me and keeping me healthy. They tried many different things to help curb my feather plucking issues, but in the end, they feared that I was stressed, as I continued to pull my feathers. Who knows? I may continue to pull my feathers or I may not. We African Greys are very sensitive birds, so sometimes when we get upset, we can be a bit hard on ourselves. Whatever happens, I am still an amazing bird with a wonderful personality and charm. Right now, my foster mom and dad are working with me to divert my attention away from my feathers by giving me a "job" called foraging. I am enjoying this line of work, and even though I still get stressed every now and then and pull a feather, I am learning to focus my energies on more productive things. I tend to prefer men but I will step up nicely for women as well. I am also very vocal and say a variety of different things like "Lola" "Step Up" "Hello" "Bye", and "What's cooking". When I see my foster dad and I want a head scritch, I call out to him "Come here baby!" I love eating Harrison's pellets and a variety of different vegetables like greens, sweet potatoes, brown rice with vegetables, whole wheat pasta with sauce, and whole wheat toast for breakfast. I also really enjoy my daily baths which helps with my feather plucking and I am fearless about new toys, especially rope toys with wooden blocks and toys where I can untie knots. So stop by sometime and meet me! I am a wonderful bird with a great personality. Like the ole' Aesop saying goes, "It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds". Print this page |
