Hello! My name is Ivy, and I'm a sweet little lilac-crowned amazon who was rescued from a bay area shelter. I'm somewhere in the neighborhood of ten to twelve years old, but whether I'm a male or female is anyone's guess. I didn't have a great history -- I didn't know what toys were when I came to Mickaboo and I'm still not all that keen on eating my fruits and veggies, but it really helps me if I can see another bird -- or you! -- enjoying the same food. I'm told that most amazons are outgoing and adventurous and loud, but I guess I don't have that gene. I am happy to sit on my cage all day and just hang out with the resident birds and my foster mom. Sometimes the conures I share my foster home with get me going, but I am happy to make quiet amazon noises and talk with you, too. I don't like hands and I don't like being lifted off my cage. I am not a cuddly bird, but few amazons are! If you pull your sleeve over your hand before you pick me up I'm okay with that, and if not, I'll give a good growl to let you know I'm unhappy. Trust me -- biting is the last thing I want to do! If you're looking for a mellow, sweet amazon, I'm your bird. Give me a chance? Notice: Due to the sometimes difficult nature of amazons, Mickaboo prefers that amazons not be a households' first parrot.
