Hi! I'm the new bird on the block! I crash landed in my last home by accident and sheer luck. I was a stray, somehow lost my beautiful tail feathers and was grounded near a freeway. Along came some nice people who said "Wow, what is a Blue & Gold macaw doing sitting on that pile of dirt?" It was me - wings and landing gear in tact but rudder missing. I have been seen by an avian vet and I am good to go. The other good news is I am friendly, interactive, chatty and know how to step up. With or without the long macaw tail feathers, I am just one fabulously gorgeous bird and hope some of you will want to meet me in the very near future. Stay tuned for updates. Update 3/25/08: The test results are in and DNA doesn't lie. I am a sweet GIRL. Everyone was betting I was a BIG BOY and if they placed a money bet they lost. UPDATE 10/5/08: I have been on the move lately through several foster homes trying to get comfortable. It seems I do best in peaceful surroundings, where I can just hang out with my person, look out the window, eat something now and then, and evaluate my space. All in all it appears that I am not a bird for someone just getting started with birds, or with kids, or a lot of stress in the home. UPDATE 2/14/09: Today is Valentine's Day and my foster mom says that I am HER special girl! She calls me Princess Coco because I do love to be the center of attention. As you can see by my new picture, I have learned a new trick and will roll over on command. I love to be tickled and will play gently with you. If you hang onto my feetsies, you can swing me gently upside-down while I laugh. I enjoy sitting on the arm of the couch next to you and napping while you read or watch tv. If you happen to share that popcorn, that's one of my favorite treats! I have learned quite a lot since coming here and am growing into a very nice young ladybird. I don't throw many tantrums anymore (not like before!) and I hardly say naughty words now. I like to sing opera and can carry long notes, but when the music goes too fast, I just add my name so it becomes a song about Coco. "aaaaaah, Coco Coco, ooooh" I can be quite bossy, but I AM a Princess, after all! When the dog barks, I tell him to "stop it!" and when I want out to play, I tell my foster mom "step up, step up, up up up!". I can say mama, apple, yummm, nut and Hi. I am learning to say thank you and will make you laugh with a resounding HA HA HA right in your face! My tail is growing back in nicely, with a few awkward feathers that should be back to beautiful in another couple of moltings. It was sore for awhile and I could not preen it, but my foster mom has been helping me and I will have a prettier tail than Rapunzel soon.
I am the perfect valentine for you - I am pretty and precious and ready to be someone's special girl!
