Lovebird foster parents agree...We Adore Our Lovebirds!
UPDATE 4/6/06: "Albus is now fully converted to Zupreem pellets, but still loves his treat of Nutrian cakes. But the big news is that he is much more comfortable once he is out of his cage. He relaxes much more quickly with me now. Plus, he ate some Nutrian cake from my hand the other day. That is a first for him!" Hello, everyone. Let me introduce myself. I'm Albus. No, not Albus Dumbledore, Albus Cockatiel. Although I may also be a White Wizard, I'm much younger than Albus Dumbledore (of Harry Potter fame). I may have had a very difficult life before I was found wandering the streets of San Jose. Certainly something unfortunate happened to me in the past -- maybe an unpleasant run-in with a dark wizard. Anyway, something (maybe giardia) caused me to pluck out my feathers. Now I have been treated for giardia and have a secure foster home. I still pluck some, but not as much as before. New feathers are growing back in, and I'm well on my way to looking like a handsome lutino cockatiel again. It may help that I tolerate showers in the kitchen sink. I'm stubborn in the food department and don't consider much of anything a treat except Nutriberries and Nutrian cakes. But maybe persistence will pay off and one of these days I'll actually eat veggies. While I don't speak English, and don't sing, I am a very chatty fellow, mumbling incantations over my dinner, conversing in mysterious languages with nearby humans, whistling to more distant birds. I like having people around me, but I'm not yet prepared to climb on anyone's hand if it comes into my cage. Once I'm out of my cage, however, I am very sweet. I like to sit on shoulders and explore my foster dad's computer desk. Sometimes Dad will cup me next to his chest and scritch my head. Then I mystify him by being afraid of hands once I'm back in my cage. A good wizard always keeps folks guessing. It might take a little time to convince me that a new friend is indeed someone I can trust. But we wizards are very loyal you know, especially cockatiel wizards -- and I would make a very trustworthy companion, indeed, for a patient, gentle, maybe magical, human.
