UPDATE: Big surprise! I was so disfigured by the scaly mites when I arrived with Mickaboo that no one could tell if I was a boy or a girl. I am all well now and, as you can see, I am a beautiful little boy. They don't come any prettier or sweeter than I am. Please remember what I used to look like any time you see a bird with funny crusty growths -- and then remember what I look like now. It is so easy to cure scaly mites, and I was so miserable before. I am a curious and very intrepid little boy. Not yet completely tame, but not afraid of people either. As long as you treat me with good manners, I'm willing to learn to be friends. Please don't think this is how I am supposed to look. I have a bad case of something called scaly mites, and it has made my face all crusty, and my feet too. This is not an uncommon thing to happen to a caged bird, but I needed to go to a vet as soon as the my person noticed little crusty places on my face. Now I am itchy and miserable and have trouble eating. But Mickaboo has taken me to an avian vet, and my treatment has started. Very soon, I'll be a cute little budgie again. Check back here to see my progress as I get better. And tell all of your friends about me -- I don't want other budgies to have to go through this because their people didn't know about scaly mites.
