UPDATE 10/7/05, from Sam and Dave's foster mom: "Sam is, quite honestly, the handsomest tiel that I have ever seen. He has a very poised and dignified air about him, and he's always perfectly groomed. Dave, as you can see in his picture, is a wee bit more acrobatic than most tiels :) I'd never seen a cockatiel do that before, just hanging straight upside down on the side of the cage. The two are inseparable and quite lively." We are soul brothers, Sam and Dave, two male cockatiels named for a '60s soul duet. We are great friends, but like to retire to our own spaces when bedtime comes. I'm Sam, sometimes the more reserved one. I say "sometimes" because I also have moments when I pick on Dave, just a bit. We don't exactly sing, but we do have a good repertoire of whistles and calls, especially to greet people and ask for attention. We enjoy Harrison's pellets, peas, broccoli and spinach, with Nutrian cakes for treats. We enjoy gentle showers, too. I'm about 10 years old. I prefer to choose when to be sociable, but when I'm in the mood I enjoy sitting on a person's shoulder because that makes it so convenient to get the head scratching I relish. It takes me a while to get used to anything new (shows intelligence, I say). I don't usually try to fly because I'm missing a few flight feathers due to an old "night fright" incident. That's okay, because I enjoy letting a person carry me around. I also enjoy sitting on my play pen and looking out the window. As you can see from the photo, my friend Dave can be a real ham. He was a Mickaboo bird once before, about 2 years ago. We aren't sure how old he is, but he could be a bit older than I am. He's a homebody who likes to stay in, on, or near his cage. He is a bit hand shy now, but he enjoys human attention. It's his loss that he doesn't understand the value of head skritches right now, but I think that could change with consistent attention. Sometimes he acts tough but it's just a bluff. He is a lover, not a fighter. He is very curious, though, and willing to investigate things. While I'm still trying to decide if a toy is going to attack, ol' Dave will already be playing with it. Frankly, I think he is a show off, with his acrobatic ways. In short, we are both pretty special. Are you looking for two real soul Notice: Cockatiels are flock animals, and most of them are much happier when they live with at least one other cockatiel! Because of this, unless a household currently includes another cockatiel, Mickaboo usually requires that a minimum of two cockatiels be adopted. Print this page |
