Hi! My name is Kobe, and I'm a sweet, intelligent Blue & Gold macaw hatched November 2000 - which means I'm very young and impressionable and have many years ahead of me to love and learn new tricks. I've been well loved, but my former parents want to do some retirement travel and were worried about all the time I'd have to spend alone. I started to indulge in a bit of overpreening a couple of years ago and hope my new home will teach me how to forage and give me lots of work to do to keep my beak otherwise occupied. I know a few phrases so I can join in conversations we might have together. Together is something I like a lot of - in the garden, in the shower, folding (and unfolding) warm laundry. I'm just going into my "adolescent" years so any new parents need to understand the effect of my hormones and my need for structure and boundaries. To learn more contact the Macaw Coordinator. Update 1/15/08 Time for the news. I really dig this family life. I like looking into the back yard (knowing I am safe, warm and dry), watch movies in the living room, and love laundry days. Ah, the joy of socks!!!! When the mate to a sock goes missing, the remaining one becomes my toy. My mom makes sock balls for me and we throw them back and forth or I throw them around all by myself. I'm good enough to sometimes catch one in midair and lobb it right back. Getting the groove on with new foods too - like sweet potatoes and grapes, greens beans and snap peas. I've also been known to sneak over and steal table scraps. I'm starting to grow a few feathers where I previously showed a bit of skin. I am generally quiet but if you gently scratch my chin I'll start some conversation - "how are you", "whats up" and the one that gets them every time "I love you". One of my macaw buddies here says the word "hot" for food so when I see someone eating something I want, I say "hot". I'm doing great. Thanks for asking. Update 4/16/08 - we did the DNA test and i'm a GIRL!!!
