UPDATE: After extensive medical treatment, Tom succumbed to heart failure. We think maybe he lived as long as he did because Jerry looked after him so well -- feeding him, comforting him, and keeping up his spirits. He is missing Tom now, but he will want to be with other budgies when he is feeling better. Hi, we're Tom & Jerry. The pretty blue budgie in the picture is Tom. He's not feeling very well, so we didn't want to come out of the cage for all that hassle of picture-taking. I'm Jerry, the yellow and green guy in both pictures. I'm looking after my friend Tom, even helping to feed him when he's really feeling bad. I'm doing ok, but we have had a rough time lately, even ending up at an animal shelter. You may not know it, but most animal shelters aren't really set up to care for birds. Most of them want to do the right thing for all of us lost and damaged creatures, but they don't really know about birds. So our best hope is usually a rescue organization like Mickaboo. We're in a nice foster home, being fed healthy food, kept in a nice clean cage, and we go to an avian vet that knows about birds. Think good thoughts that now Tom will get better and then we'll be ready for a new home. We'll even come out of the cage for pictures! Notice: Due to the highly social nature of parakeets, unless a household currently includes a parakeet, Mickaboo generally requires that a minimum of two parakeets be adopted. Print this page |
