Lovebird foster parents agree...

We Adore Our Lovebirds!

  • Lovebirds have a zest for life, with big bird personalities in small packages.
  • Outfitted in beautiful colors, they rate at the very top of the cuteness scale.
  • Their non-stop activity keeps us laughing.
  • They’re opinionated and funny – like having your own personal soap opera, except cuter.
  • Musical cheeping fills our homes with cheer.
  • Always curious, these little birds like to be near the center of activity, “chatting” with their humans.
  • Lovebird pairs like to be near us, but are rarely shoulder birds. They prefer hanging out with their Lovebird buddies, and don't need much dedicated time and attention from humans.
  • When tame, single lovebirds can be sweet little shoulder birds. Singles require more attention from their humans because they see you as their mates!
  • Usually ravenous, so easy to feed.
  • You’ll never need a 'paper shredder' if you have lovebirds around.
  • And finally, when in pairs, we think they're perfect birds for people with busy lives.

Hello there! My name is Dafina, which means "precious" and it suits me perfectly. I'm a precious peach-faced lovebird. Though I have been through a lot of changes lately and am not really used to being handled, I remain calm, sweet, gentle, and curious. I could probably get along fine with another lovebird (if we were introduced carefully) because I used to have a mate. (That is a sad story I'd rather not tell right now.) But I?m also interested in people. With just a bit of patience on your part, I'm sure I good become a wonderful companion for a human. I'm most familiar with a seed diet, but am learning to eat pellets, pellet treats, and greens. So far, my favorite greens are the dried kind, especially parsley. My foster mom keeps showing me all kinds of good foods and sometimes I take a nibble. She also has given me a nice "bed." I was tucking myself in by creeping under the papers at the bottom of my cage, but now I have a little box to sleep in. I also have manzanita perches and a rope perch---I really like that!--so much nicer than the plain dowels I used to have. As you can see, my life is improving greatly. All I need to make it perfect is my special someone and a permanent home. Those things would be so precious to me and I know I can be precious to my new person. (I'm in the front, my new friend Eshe is right behind me!)
