UPDATE FROM BLUEBELLE & FINN'S FOSTER MOM 3/30/2008: Finn and Bluebelle are the happiest and quietest of all our birds. Finn sings a beautiful arpeggio and Bluebelle responds with the tiniest squeak. They are low maintenance and a pleasure to live with. Bluebelle is a changed bird now that she lives with Finn. She loves pellets and veggies, plays with toys, and no longer freaks out when we're changing the paper in her cage. It's like Finn taught her how to be a cockatiel. Finn is friendly and will step up onto a hand, but Bluebelle still doesn't know how to do that. Instead, if she flutters out of her cage, she waits for us to pick her up with a towel or she flutters back on her own. Update 8/7/07: I have finally settled down and gotten used to cage life. Once I got through the quarantine period, my foster parents put me in the bird room where I got to meet some other cockatiels. I was thrilled! From watching the other birds, I learned about eating greens and pellets. I even learned that a hand reaching into my cage isn't always a bad thing. The best part is that I have fallen in love! His name is Finn and he's another Mickaboo foster cockatiel. He won me over with his beautiful singing, and since he wasn't getting along with his cage mates, I invited him to stay with me. He sings to me and we groom each other's crests. Our foster mom calls us the honeymooners! The only thing that might make us happier is a permanent place to stay. Do you have room for a sweet young couple just starting out? Hot child in the city...running wild and looking pretty. Yup, that's me Bluebelle - a free spirited lady bird who likes to run with the wind trying to be free again. I'd most likely be happiest in an aviary setting where I can spread my wings and be as active as possible. When I was first "admitted" to Mickaboo I was really quite dehydrated. I'm fine now though so you don't have to worry about that. I do have one "fixable" problem in that I will only eat millet. So wherever I do end up living my person will have to work with me to eat much healthier- you know some pellets, a few dark leafy greens... I'm a very pretty girl, my foster mom reports, so I'll add some beauty to your existing flock. Won't you take me in and give me a safe harbor? I'l be anxiously awaiting your call!
