UPDATE FROM RIKA'S FOSTER MOM 6/25/08: Rika is doing fine. Her favorite treats are Lafeber Avi-Cakes and millet. She also likes broccoli, corn, carrots, and occasionally dark leafy greens like spinach and bok choy. I haven't had much success giving her other fruits and veggies. She is a little overweight, but I'd rather see her fat and happy than hungry and cranky. She enjoys sitting on the top of her cage and is a quiet bird. She does chirp and get excited when she hears you coming home. Nice to meet all of you out there in cyber space! My name is Rika. I'm new to this site as my owner found it necessary to give me up for personal reasons. She purchased me at a pet store in LA in August 2000. Hey-that makes me a bicentennial bird! My mom said she knew there was something special about me! I'm eight years old, give or take a month or two. I have a vice (hey, who doesn't) and mine is food! I just love to eat. In fact I'm a bit overweight or "Rubenesque". *blush* I'm somewhat of a food hog and will push any other bird out of the way if I see something I like in the food dish. Though I am wary of strangers I can, and do bond, to my owner and personal human. Once I warm up to you I will stretch my head out in anticipation of a good head rub. On the other hand if you startle me, or approach me in a way that makes me nervous, I have been to known to nip a little. Just take your time with me and we'll be just fine though. I think baths are just the greatest. Forget the spray bottle- just gives me a shallow pie pan and I'll do the rest. If I was Bobby Darrin I'd be singin' "Splish splash I was takin' a bath long about a Saturday night ... ". I'd make a good companion bird for someone-do you have a place for me in your home? We can get acquainted quickly-besides what's a little nip now and then between friends until we do? Print this page |
