We are coming back to Mickaboo due to changes in our family. Would love to have you visit us in our new foster home! Love, Fred and Ethel UPDATE: 8/15/06 "Well things are going along well. Fred is speaking quite a lot. His vocabulary is pretty good, but he only talks when he is just getting sleepy, so it is hard to understand everything he says. Ethel is still quiet and still aggressive when it comes to being handled. She steps up on the hand perch very quickly and is easily moved around. Fred get on the hand perch easy enough, and I think in time I will be able to pick up Fred with my hands. They love their bath time. It is quite comical to have all four parrots soaking themselves and popping and whistling at the same time. (Very messy, but very funny) They obliterate any wood toys, as fast as I can put them up. Ethel is quite the fruit lover, but Fred is very picky. They are both hooked on the Harrisons. They get a good dose of a Harrison mash every morning. And they continue to eat dried pellets and fruit during the day and evening. I will be taking them to the vet, for a nail trimming sometime this week. Ethel?s plumage is gorgeous, and Fred is molting some, but he doesn?t seem to be plucking at all. My hope is he will be in full feather by this time next year. Hello, hello, hello, hello! We're two beautiful blue-front Amazons, affectionately named Fred & Ethel (after the Mertzes on "I Love Lucy") because unlike Lucy & Ricky, we like to stay out of the lime light and are more subdued and quiet like Fred & Ethel. We were surrendered to an animal shelter by our previous human who didn't give them any information about us (he was not much of a talker, either). The shelter called Mickaboo and we were sprung from that joint! Good thing, because they only had room for a tiny cage for us both, which left hardly any room for us to move around. We just huddled close to one another. Our foster mom took us both in and put us in a bigger cage with plenty of toys that we happily took apart in no time flat (hee hee, boy, was that fun, too!). We're simple birdies though, and just a clean small cardboard box or a paper towel tube makes a great toy for us that we can tear apart. I (Fred) have plucked some of my feathers in the past, but as you can see, they are growing back in very nicely and I'm going to be quite stunning! My mate Ethel is in good feather condition so she's already gorgeous. We're trying out pellets and are okay with them so far. We have quite healthy appetites and love to eat! That's something to watch out for with us Amazons because we love to turn into pudgy perch potatoes, so don't overfeed us, because we'll eat it, too. We love apples, corn, carrots, squash, and grapes, and although we don't care for broccoli or snap peas, we may nibble on them for you. Who knows what other healthy foods we like; our foster mom is trying new fruits and veggies with us all the time so we are expanding our culinary sights. We are not too noisy, just for a few minutes in the morning and occasionally at dusk. We love to be sung to and will do an Amazon version right along with you sometimes. We'll also greet you with synchronized "hellos" when we see you. If you are experienced with Amazons and have room in your home and heart for us both, please let Mickaboo know right away ... okay? We'll be ready to be your loyal sidekicks. Story posted on: October 4, 2005 Notice: Due to the sometimes difficult nature of amazons, Mickaboo prefers that amazons not be a households' first parrot.
