Update: Hi again! I'm feeling much better now that I've settled into my new home. I'm still pretty scared of big people, but I have a blue crown friend now and we love each other so much! We preen together, play together, talk all day and argue pretty much all the time. We're just like an old married couple! I still pick at my feathers (when will they be making a patch for feather addicts?), but I'm not as voracious about it, so I've picked up the ability to fly again. Well, at least I can glide - that's a good start. The doctor says I'm very healthy and strong, which I already knew. Thanks so much Mickaboo for helping me find a nice new home. I think I'll be staying here forever! Whooo am I? There may be an owl in my past, but the rest of my history is a mystery. My name is Nichi and I could be a former member of the wild flocks of Telegraph Hill. Mickaboo acquired me from a humane society where my story was condensed to "attacked by an owl." My vet says I have suffered no lasting injury but am probably an older bird. (Those wild birds don't get too old, so maybe "mature" would be more accurate.) My back was nearly bare, and my chest was going that way. One theory is that I plucked because I was so nervous around people. (I say the owl started it and I'm sticking to that.) People don't seem so scary to me now, and it helps that I have a conure friend in my new home. I love toys, especially heavy ones that I can throw. My favorite foods are bell peppers (the orange ones, please), peanut butter, and Harrison's pellets. I even like that Benebac stuff. So I can join in the conversations around here, I'm working on learning English as a second language. I enjoy walks in the sun, from the safety of my carrier. My chest feathers are beginning to grow back as I find feather shredding is less fun than shredding apple perches and cactus wood. Most of my wing feathers are chewed enough so I can't fly but you should see me jump! I'm jumping for joy to be in a loving safe home and know I will come to appreciate humans more each day.
