Welcome 2014...
By Michelle Yesney, Chief Executive Officer
Well, we've made it through another year. Because of all of you, there are more companion birds that are alive, healthy, and in good homes than there would have been without you. Like all of our years together, there have been some sad times, some nasty encounters with reality, and some occasions of great joy. The significance of the joy we experience is greater because of the sadness that we know lurks always in the background. View PDF in new window |
Annual Holiday Fundraiser Donor Thank You
By Pamela Lee
Mickaboo’s Annual Holiday Party and Funraiser is our most important fundraiser of the year. The Board of Directors, volunteers, and our over 400 foster birds thank the following individuals and companies for their support, by donating silent auction and other items. Whether you gave a little or a lot, your kindness helps to ensure our rescue birds receive the care they need before they go to their "forever" homes. View PDF in a new window |

Featured Volunteer: Doris Muller
By Shauna Hill
If you have ever watched the 1970’s television show “Baretta”, you may have admired a handsome Triton Sulphur Crested Cockatoo named Fred who stole the scene many times from the show’s star, Robert Blake. That was my first cockatoo crush and I have admired them since. Incredibly intelligent, playful and energetic, there is much to love about them. That’s why I was excited to have a chance to interview this newsletter’s featured volunteer, who happens to be our cockatoo coordinator – Doris Muller. View PDF in a new window |

Every Bird Deserves Compassion
By Guest Author Elizabeth Young, Founder and Executive Director of MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue
Before MickaCoo, there was little hope for the hundreds of domestic pigeons and doves that were found and surrendered to Bay Area animal shelters every year. The shelters had no adoption programs for these birds and the vast majority was killed when their shelter time was up. As the only Bay Area organization dedicated to rescuing unreleasable pigeons and doves, MickaCoo is closing this fatal gap in the animal welfare network and is saving lives- more than 600 so far.View PDF in a new window |
